The Joint Institute of Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development held its first institutional meeting in 2020

On the afternoon of July 23, the United Institute of Green Growth held its first meeting of 2020 in conference Room 239 of the new building on Xuhui Campus. Geng Yong, Vice Dean of School of International and Public Affairs, Dean of School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Director of SJTU-UNIDO Joint Institute of Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development, Zhao Xiaolei, Co-Director of the SJTU-UNIDO Joint Institute of Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development and Head of UNIDO ITPO Shanghai, and Wei Wendong, Tian Xu, Dong Huijuan, And Zhang Yuquan, full-time and dual-employed researchers of the Joint Institute, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Geng Yong.


Geng Yong first summarized and reported the establishment background, preparation process and existing achievements of the Institute. Brief arrangement is made for the promotion of research projects, future office space layout, professional books and periodicals. He pointed out that the research work of the institute should be "inward-facing" and should match cutting-edge technology development and serve the country's strategic needs. In view of the bottleneck between green technology and national development and market demand, feasible and innovative breakthrough solutions should be put forward.


Zhao Xiaolei briefly introduced the global work layout of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. She pointed out that the Joint Institute of Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development was established with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). It is committed to building a high-end think tank platform and a comprehensive innovation platform for international cooperation, industrial development and green economic development. In the following work, the green growth evaluation index will be used as the engine to empower the green development of the government and enterprises,and a global high-end technology display platform will be built to further expand social influence and form an international brand.

Later, associate Professor Wei Wendong and Associate Professor Tian Xu from the School of International and Public Affairs, Associate Professor Dong Huijuan and Liu Jingyu from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, full-time researcher Song Xiaoqian from the China Institute of Urban Governance, Associate Professor Zhang Yuquan, Assistant professor Liu Chunde and lecturer Yu Haishan from the China-UK Low Carbon College, Wang Hui from Shanghai Investment Promotion Center and others held in-depth discussions on their research fields, professional directions and future work arrangements.

The convening of this meeting has laid a good foundation for the research direction and work of the institute in the next stage. The research institute will take empowerment as the concept, functional diagnosis as the entry point, evaluation method as the tool, examine problems from multiple perspectives and dimensions, and continuously optimize and improve research methods, and gradually form an interdisciplinary in-depth research system to effectively promote the use of sustainable technologies. Qiu Yue, director of the office of the Institute, Liu Siyan, administrative secretary, attended the meeting .
